I. Identify and reflect on behaviors that support a climate of openness and inquiry in the classroom.
Teacher provides the student a place where students may place a sticky pad on the “What sticks with me” board located close to the door. She encourages students at the end of the class to use it to share what they learned (almost like an exit ticket). Next to the board there students can post questions they still need answers to (still not quite sticking).
II. Identify and reflect on instructional strategies that address varied cultures and linguistic backgrounds of the students.
Instructional strategies that address varied cultures and linguistic backgrounds of the students, is done in a professional a subtle way… She introduces books, and activities that will encourage multiculturalism.
III. Identify and reflect on strategies in k-12 setting that establish a comfortable environment which accepts and fosters diversity of all students.
Teacher has a great creative way of creating a heterogeneous small groups to use peer to peer learning and fostering diversity with all students.
IV. Identify and evaluate strategies and techniques for establishing a smooth and efficient learning environment.
Teacher utilizes the CHAMPS board to remind the student of the expectations. However, the students are not as receptive as they could be. Teacher uses a whistle inside the classroom when the student s voice level is unacceptable. I believe that there is improvement to be made in the way this teacher establishes a smooth and efficient learning environment.
V. Identify and evaluate how technology was used in planning coherent instruction that builds on prior knowledge.
The use of the Promethean board to during reading and language arts is evident. The students are very engaged during the bell work practice. Teacher displays the page and corrects /edits with the class as projected on the Promethean
VI. Identify and evaluate learning theories that you observe in this classroom.
I observe a lot of Behaviorism in the classroom, as the teacher uses positive reinforcement to the students that complete the work and she does communicate loss of recess time to those students to continue to disrupt the lesson.
VII. Identify and evaluate how the teachers involve students in the establishment and implementation of rules, procedures, and standards to manage the learning environment.
The teacher explained that she created a section of the wall with the rules and procedures for running her centers and to manage other learning environments. Students created pictures of good examples and bad examples of following the class rules and Centers.
VIII. Identify and evaluate how you felt as you were observing this class. What did you see that you felt was effective? Ineffective?
While I was observing this class I felt that the teacher had great moments of having the class engaged, and then due to couple of talkative and disruptive student and then the mood of the classroom changed a bit. Control at times, loss of control on other instances.
IX. What did you learn from this observation that will help you in your classroom? What did you see that made you aware of something that you do or don’t do in your classroom?
Definitely I want to implement the board “what sticks to me” I think is a great idea.

I. Identify and reflect on behaviors that support a climate of openness and inquiry in the classroom.
Teacher provides the students with a very detail list of all the days’ activities via an Detailed agenda on her board. She also has student created samples of their work up on her wall….
II. Identify and reflect on instructional strategies that address varied cultures and linguistic backgrounds of the students.
Some of the Instructional strategies that address varied cultures and linguistic backgrounds is her use of the positive Turn and Talk from the Whole Brain teaching. The student feel comfortable as she models and encourages multiculturalism. Interesting fact: her topic was the Native Indian, so the topic and lesson itself was one that elicited respect and understanding.
III. Identify and reflect on strategies in k-12 setting that establish a comfortable environment which accepts and fosters diversity of all students.
Teacher has provided all the students with an activity early and focused on respect. Her door has an anti-bulling theme which helps to set the tone and expectations.
IV. Identify and evaluate strategies and techniques for establishing a smooth and efficient learning environment.
The teacher never skips the use of Champs for all transitions. She also has a routine to look at the student once and next time she will be implementing a consequence. I did notice that once she had a conversation – brief with the student she did not harp on the incident but moved right along with her lesson.
V. Identify and evaluate how technology was used in planning coherent instruction that builds on prior knowledge.
The use of a camera (CAM) to project the student’s work helped to model how the studetns work should look like. The Promethean board was used for time keeping – countdown to the end of the activity. VI.Identify and evaluate learning theories that you observe in this classroom.
Multiple Intelligence Groups based on a Survey she gave the students. Teacher says that it really helps keep the students accountable for their own learning and for all choices.
VII. Identify and evaluate how the teachers involve students in the establishment and implementation of rules, procedures, and standards to manage the learning environment.
A wall with paper trophies surrounds the names of the “students of the month” and she incentivizes following the classroom rules or CHAMPS by allowing the top 5 students upstairs to lunch with her and a movie. This really seems to encourage the good behavior in the class. She also has a student to Cheer on the Champs in between transition from one class to another.
VIII. Identify and evaluate how you felt as you were observing this class. What did you see that you felt was effective? Ineffective?
I felt really great being in the classroom and I am sure the students felt the same way. Very effective teacher.
IX. What did you learn from this observation that will help you in your classroom? What did you see that made you aware of something that you do or don’t do in your classroom?
I learn that if you can place high expectations on your student and they will meet you at least half-way!

I. Identify and reflect on behaviors that support a climate of openness and inquiry in the classroom.
Teacher created a GRAFFITI wall with the rules and expectations of her classroom. Each student signed it with a Sharpie and it is a focal point of the class upon entering. The classroom set up is open, with seats not cluttered but everyone sitting next to one another on long diagonal patterns. All in great position to promethean board. She encourages students at the end of the class to use an EXIT ticket to share three things they learned.
II. Identify and reflect on instructional strategies that address varied cultures and linguistic backgrounds of the students.
The teacher has symbols and numbers labeled in different languages. She also make a point to include shy (ELL) students in the discourse/ lesson.
III. Identify and reflect on strategies in k-12 setting that establish a comfortable environment which accepts and fosters diversity of all students.
She has developed a terrific relationship with all of her students. It is evident by their engagement in and class participation..
IV. Identify and evaluate strategies and techniques for establishing a smooth and efficient learning environment.
Teacher uses a PEER TO PEER or student led review discussions. Sometimes, if a student stands and moves to the back to sharpen a pencil, Elizabeth P. will say, “hey we need you in this conversation to solve this problems, please hurry back.” And that is all she would need to say and the student rapidly conforms. With more difficult problems, the teacher herself using a camera CAM, will model how to solve the math problem. Truly inspirational.
V. Identify and evaluate how technology was used in planning coherent instruction that builds on prior knowledge.
The use of the Promethean board will play a short “pearson /envision math” animation and the student will take notes. The student could read older notes.
VI. Identify and evaluate learning theories that you observe in this classroom.
I observe the teacher using a more holistic approach – multiple intelligences. Grouped kids would be creating rap songs to remember math equations, while others worked timing each other – challenging each other who complete the problem the fastest and with accuracy. Great games!,
VII. Identify and evaluate how the teachers involve students in the establishment and implementation of rules, procedures, and standards to manage the learning environment.
The GRAFFITI wall with the rules procedures is a great way to have transfer the responsibility from the teacher to the students. Students seem to take pride in being part of the class and lots of student engagement..
VIII. Identify and evaluate how you felt as you were observing this class. What did you see that you felt was effective? Ineffective?
Highly effective Is what I feel from this class! While I was observing this class I felt that the teacher had great control and great knowledge!
IX. What did you learn from this observation that will help you in your classroom? What did you see that made you aware of something that you do or don’t do in your classroom?
I will have more of the Peer to Peer modeling where the students themselves come upfront to explain how they came up with their answer.

I. Identify and reflect on behaviors that support a climate of openness and inquiry in the classroom.
Teacher’s methodical preparation supports a climate of openness and inquiry. At such a young age, the teacher has established very concrete procedure for her class. She does mix a little of Whole Brain teaching with clapping at a rhythm and countdown during transtiosn. the students with a very detail list of all the days’ activities via an Detailed agenda on her board. She also has student created samples of their work up on her wall…
II. Identify and reflect on instructional strategies that address varied cultures and linguistic backgrounds of the students.
Spanish words for science (luna = moon) and other space terms are in Spanish, while student work –all hand from the walls. Also, she has “no bullying zone” to help student feel at ease.
III. Identify and reflect on strategies in k-12 setting that establish a comfortable environment which accepts and fosters diversity of all students.
Teacher has provided all the students with an early quiz on Multiple intelligences; she’s arranged her centers to meet those student’s needs. .
The use of a camera (CAM) to project the student’s work and a timer during activities
VI. Identify and evaluate learning theories that you observe in this classroom.
Multiple Intelligence Groups based on a Survey she gave the students. Students love making posters and doing other great small group actives like practicing the Phonemic Words.
VII. Identify and evaluate how the teachers involve students in the establishment and implementation of rules, procedures, and standards to manage the learning environment.
Teacher is proud to display her Students of the Month and has her best group during centers join her for lunch and an episode of “Magic School bus.”
VIII. Identify and evaluate how you felt as you were observing this class. What did you see that you felt was effective? Ineffective?
Loved being in the classroom and I know that she has students from the third grade come in and read books they have created. Sharing with them. Very engaging! am sure the students felt the same way. Very effective teacher.
IX. What did you learn from this observation that will help you in your classroom? What did you see that made you aware of something that you do or don’t do in your classroom?
High academic expectations can be started in K and good habits created in the early grades can carry over to the upper grades! Let’s train them early!
